Dunk. A weekly comic strip.

I've started up a weekly comic strip on the Telltale Games website! It's called "Dunk" and it involves a comic strip artist named Dunkin who draws a strip called "Dank." There's a twist here though. I've been doing an actual "Dank" strip on the Telltale site for nearly two years previous. It's kind of like pulling the curtain back and seeing the creator beneath the creation. Go and have a look here. Once a week, every week.

Just put the finishing touches on another little cartoon short. Enjoy!

Agent Peabody

Went to a hockey game last week and was lucky enough to witness this man providing security for the event. Jon aptly named him "agent Peabody". I wished I'd had a camera because this sketch from memory does him no justice I'm sure.

The 10 x 10 Post-it show in Lausanne, Switzerland!

I had meant to write about this earlier but better late than never right? Last weekend, if you happened to be in the vicinity of Lausanne, Switzerland, you would have caught the opening of the "10x 10 Post-it" art show by Atrabile. All the participating artists were asked to create an idea using 100 post-its, arranged in a 10 by 10 square. Below you'll see a closeup of one of my post-its.

And here's how it looked with all the post-its arranged together.

It was a fun piece to work on. I wish I lived in Switzerland so I could see what everyone else did for the show.

C'est trés bon! La force des choses!

In early September this year you'll see a French stand alone version of my "By Necessity" story that first appeared in Further Grickle. It'll be published by the good people of Atrabile in Switzerland. The book will sport a brand new cover design and everything!

Here's a sample of some of the translated panels:

It's funny how I hear completely different voices in my head when it's written in French.

Oh man. APE 2007.

APE, holy moley! As you can see in the picture above, Scott Campbell and the Hickee crew were at all 4 of the Alternative Comics tables this year. Joshua Kemble, Vera Brosgol, Jen Wang, and wicked Jon Klassen were kind enough to keep us company too. We saw and talked to so many excellent folks that my head is still spinning. I rarely left the table this year but when I did I made sure to stop by the impressive Telltale booth to say "hi" to everyone. I also managed to finally meet and pick up some autographed Kevin Huizenga books. Very nice fellow, and man I love the work he's doing in comics.

The Indie show on Saturday was a real highlight too! Wall to wall people the whole night and nearly everything at the show sold. Solid. Check out the art online here.

Okay, gotta stop typing and conserve my energy for Montreal. There'll be another post with photos when I get back!

Friday, April 20, 2007

Gone to APE! San Francisco!

Well I'm heading out the door to get to San Francisco and APE! Lots of fun awaits I'm sure. I'll have plenty of stuff on hand. In case you've forgotten any of it or just don't want to be bothered to scroll down through past posts, here's what'll be at the Hickee table:

-New "Old Man River" mini-comic
-SPACE WOLF t-shirts
-20 original little Grickle paintings
-New Grickle stickers
-Hickee postcards
- Tons of further Grickles, Sticklebacks, and Hickee comics
-Scott Campbell prints

There's probably even more stuff I'm forgetting. But, shoot! I gotta go catch my plane! See everyone down there!

Along with my new mini "Old Man River" (see previous post) I'll be bringing a bunch of little paintings. They're mostly acrylic on canvas panels that are either 4x6, 5x7, or even 4x5. Tiny chunks of original Grickle art that you can take home! I'll be posting various ones on this blog up until APE. Enjoy.

Going APE!

...Well, going TO ape (Alternative Press Expo) that is. In San Francisco on April 21st and 22nd. I should have new stickers, a new mini comic, and some fresh paintings that will be in the following show:

"The Indie" at Gallery 1988, 1173 Sutter Street, San Francisco, on April 21st.

There are tons of great people in this show. You'll kick yourself if you miss it!

Switzerland! Bile Noire!

The Swiss, unbeknownst to me until recently, have an affinity for Grickle. In the latest edition of "Bile Noire" I'm flattered and proud to say you'll find a translated version (French) of my story "Slight Abberation." If you're able to read "francaise" feel free to check out this write up.

There are a ton of great artists in the issue and it's well worth checking out if you can get your hands on a copy. Beautiful production values from the comic company, Atrabile.

Switzerland seems pretty darn awesome to me.

So there's a lot going on...

...and a lot that's going to be happening in the coming months in the world of Grickle and Hickee things. Plenty of art shows, new comics, and other stuff to announce. I'll try and keep everyone posted on the various events and happenings right here on this blog.

First up is APE 2007! I'll be there with the Hickee gang selling comics, maybe some new shirts, little paintings, and who knows? Perhaps a new mini comic too. For a taste of APE-like things to come, here's a little painting I've titled "Space Sadness" that will be in an art show in San Francisco on that weekend (April 21-22.)

...more details to follow.

Papercutter. It's a very cool anthology series put together by Greg Means at Tugboat Press, and I happen to be in the third issue of it. I'm quite happy with the cover and story and I'd love people to check it out and see what they think of it!

Just look at it would ja? Demand that your local comic shop pick it up!

Oh man. Portland's Stumptown Comics Fest!

It is Monday, October 30, and the weekend of Stumptown Comics Fest is now becoming a memory. A memory filled with excellent times and rather awesome people. I wanted to say thanks to Indigo for putting together another terrific show in Portland this year. I've been attending this convention since it started in 2004 and it just keeps getting bigger and better.

I'm pleased to say that I discovered the wonderful power of live comics readings this weekend as well. The reading held at Guapo comics in SE Portland was amazing! All the creators that read their work added a new dimension to it that I would never have anticipated. Excellent fun. I've posted some images of Scott Campbell reading Pyramid Car over here. And if you're not already aware of Joe Sayers then head here and read some of the funniest stuff in comics.

10 days until Stumptown in Portland!

Hang onto yer socks!

It's getting really, really, close to Stumptown Comics Fest time! Can you believe it? I can't! I've still got tons to do to get ready for it!

Stumptown starts on Friday evening, Oct. 27 and continues on until Saturday,Oct. 28. And it'll take place here, the Oregon Convention Center.

It's looking very good that I'll have brand NEW comic story out for the show! It'll be featured in the excellent anthology "PaperCutter #3" by Tugboat Press. It'll even sport a cover by yours truly. Along with that debut I'm going to be selling the latest Hickee comics, as well as all the Grickle books, and Stickleback. Some original art will be for sale and a mish mash of free postcards and stickers too!

The rest of the Hickee crew will also be there with an assortment of items. Such as Raz's mini, Doublefine merch and more minis from Scott, myself, Joe and Nathan!

and wait ...there's more!!

I've got a bunch of my animated shorts being shown at Zoey Trope's Cartoon Cavalcade on Saturday, Oct. 28, at 7pm. Located at the historic Hollywood Theater in Portland. Definitely go and see the funny picture shows after the convention!

Plus I still have a piece up at Pushdot Studio as part of their "One Shot gallery show."

Whew! Okay then, I think that's all I've got for now! Just try and relax and prepare yourself for an amazing weekend of comic craziness in Portland!

(whoa. Waaaaay too many links in this post eh.)

Thought I should let everyone know that I've got a piece up at the "One Shot" gallery show starting tonight in Portland. The show will run from October 5th until early November and features single panels pulled from various comic stories. There's a ton of great people in it! You can view the online gallery sampling here.

The piece I've submitted is a selected panel from the Captain Insomniac story created for the Project: Superior anthology from AdHouse Books.

If you're in Portland you should definitely stop by and check it out! The gallery is located at:

A little news update- Stumptown in Portland!

Hi folks!

Things are hopping this fall and I wanted to post a news filled update!

First off, I'll be attending the Stumptown ComicsFest in Portland, Oregon, this year. The event will take place on Friday, October 27th and Saturday, October 28th at the Oregon Convention Center. I'll be there with the majority of the Hickee gang, selling new mini's, the latest Hickee (vol.3 #2) and plenty of other doo-dads! Even some original art! Take a trip to the NorthWest and check it out!

I've got some new material surfacing this autumn. There'll be a 14 page comic appearing in the fine pages of PaperCutter #3, published by the great people of Tugboat Press. It should be sporting an Annable cover as well.

I'm also planning to have a full colour, 4 page story in Flight #4. I've been seeing a lot of the roughs by other folks for this book and it is really looking fabulous! I'm very excited to be a part of the Flight crew!

And if you haven't been checking it, then you should hop over to the Hickee Hub and watch some little animated shorts I've been tinkering around with.

That's all the grickle news for now! I'll be posting images and further developments as they become more polished and defined!
